Hardware and Guying
- Through-BoltBolt through the pole at the engineered attachment height that carries the strand clamp.Views: Pole
- Strand ClampSuspension clamp on the through-bolt that holds the messenger strand to the pole.Views: Pole
- Extension Arm or StandoffBracket that holds the strand away from the pole face to gain clearance.Views: Pole
- Lashing Wire ClampClamp that anchors the end of the lashing wire on the strand at each pole.Views: Pole
- Strand Dead-EndTermination of the strand at a terminal pole, guyed against the pull.Views: Profile · Pole
- Down GuySteel strand from the pole to an anchor that balances the line’s unbalanced tension.Views: Profile · Plan · Pole
- Preformed Guy GripHelical dead-end that terminates the guy strand at the pole and at the anchor.Views: Pole
- Guy GuardYellow marker on the lower guy where people or vehicles could walk or drive into it.Views: Profile · Pole
- Guy Strain InsulatorInsulating link placed in a guy where the power owner or NESC requires one.Views: Pole
- Anchor and Anchor RodScrew, expanding, plate or rock anchor set below grade in line with the guy load.Views: Profile · Plan · Pole
- Span and Sidewalk GuysGuying used when an in-line down guy and anchor cannot be placed.Views: Plan
Aerial to Underground
- RiserU-guard and conduit on the pole where cable moves between aerial and underground.Views: Profile · Plan · Pole
Underground Plant
- HDPE ConduitContinuous plastic duct placed by boring, plowing or trenching to carry fiber underground.Views: Profile · Plan
- Innerduct and MicroductSmaller ducts inside a conduit that create separate pathways or carry air-blown cable.Views: Handhole
- Duct BankSeveral ducts placed together in one trench, sometimes encased in concrete.Views: Profile
- Tracer Wire and Test PointLocatable wire placed with non-metallic duct where specified (owner spec) and tested for continuity at each enclosure.Views: Profile · Handhole
- Warning TapeBuried marking tape placed above the duct in an open trench to warn future diggers.Views: Profile
- HandholeBelow-grade box with a load-rated lid for cable access, slack storage and splicing.Views: Profile · Plan · Handhole
- Handhole Lid MarkingLid marking that names the owner and use and shows the load rating.Views: Handhole
- Vault or ManholeBelow-grade enclosure large enough to enter; confined-space rules apply.Views: Plan
- PedestalAbove-grade enclosure that houses buried splices or drop terminals.Views: Profile · Plan
- FlowerpotSmall grade-level enclosure for drop terminals and short slack.Views: Plan
- Handhole Slack CoilCable stored in a coil inside a handhole or vault, within bend radius.Views: Handhole
- Directional Bore PathPlanned and actual pilot-bore path between the entry and exit pits, passing under existing utilities.Views: Profile · Plan · Bore
- Entry PitExcavation where the drill head enters the ground, with drilling fluid containment.Views: Bore
- Exit PitExcavation where the drill head surfaces and the pullback string is assembled.Views: Bore
- Drilling Fluid and RecoveryFluid that carries cuttings and holds the hole open; contained and disposed of per regulations.Views: Bore
- PotholeVacuum or hand excavation that exposes an existing utility before the bore crosses it.Views: Profile · Plan · Bore
- Micro-TrenchNarrow saw-cut trench in pavement for microduct, sealed after placement.Views: Plan
Equipment
- HDD RigDirectional drill, anchored to the ground, with electrical strike protection.Views: Bore
- Drill RodsRods added one at a time behind the drill head; each rod is a common reading interval unless the owner sets another.Views: Bore
- Drill Head and SondeSlant-face bit carrying a transmitter that reports depth, pitch and roll to the locator.Views: Bore
- Walkover LocatorReceiver carried over the bore head to read its position and depth and guide steering.Views: Bore
- BackreamerTool pulled back through the pilot hole to enlarge it for the product.Views: Bore
- SwivelRotating link that keeps the drill string’s rotation from twisting the conduit.Views: Bore
- Breakaway LinkSacrificial link that breaks before the pull stretches any conduit past its safe pull strength.Views: Bore
