Permits and Right-of-Way
Get written permission for every work location, and carry the permit conditions on site, before any excavation starts.
8 steps · 1 hold point
Pre-Construction Survey, Staking and White-Lining
Walk the route, document existing conditions, stake pits and enclosures, and white-line the dig area before anyone excavates.
8 steps · 1 hold point
One-Call Locates (811) and Ticket Management
Get every buried facility marked before you dig, verify the marks on site, and keep a valid ticket for every day of work.
9 steps · 1 hold point
Potholing (Daylighting)
Expose every utility the bore will cross or closely parallel, and record its true depth, size and direction before drilling.
7 steps · 1 hold point
Bore Planning and Rig Setup
Plan a bore path that meets cover and clearance, then set up a safe, contained site with a calibrated locator and a tested strike system.
8 steps · 1 hold point
Pilot Bore and Tracking
Drill the pilot hole on the planned path, stay clear of existing utilities and keep an accurate bore log.
8 steps · 2 hold points
Reaming and Pullback
Enlarge the pilot hole and pull the conduit or conduit bundle in through a swivel and breakaway link, without damaging or overstressing it.
8 steps · 1 hold point
Other Placement Methods
Choose open trench, plowing or micro-trenching when boring is not the best fit, and apply each method's key controls.
7 steps · 2 hold points
Handholes, Vaults and Pedestals
Set enclosures level and at grade with the right load rating, bring ducts and tracer wire in cleanly, and give safe access.
7 steps · 1 hold point
Duct Proving and Pull Tape
Prove every duct is clear and round, install footage-marked pull tape where specified, and plug every duct end before cable placement.
5 steps · 1 hold point
Cable Placement Underground
Pull or blow fiber into duct without exceeding tension or bend limits, and store the right slack in the right places.
8 steps · 2 hold points
Restoration and Cleanup
Dispose of spoils and drilling fluid legally, backfill and compact, and restore every surface to the permit specification.
7 steps · 1 hold point
Documentation and Closeout
Hand over as-builts, test results and permit closeouts that match what is actually in the ground.
